The Tarlac City government, under the leadership of Mayor Cristy Angeles, has received an award for its “Outstanding Practice in Composting Operation.”
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Central Luzon handed over a plaque of recognition to Tarlac City on June 28.
The conferment of the award coincided with the conduct of the Environmental Summit, with the theme “Celebrating the Excellence and Partnership of Environmental Champions,” held at Widus Hotel, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga. June is an Environment Month.
“Congratulations, City Government of Tarlac under the leadership of Mayor Cristy Angeles. Outstanding Practice in Composting Operation Category!” the city government said.
Citing Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, the local government explained, “Ang composting ay ang ‘pag kontrol na pagkabulok ng organikong bagay o materyal sa pamamagitan ng mga microorganisms, higit sa lahat ng mga bacteria and fungi, para sa humus-like product’.”
