Angeles City Mayor Lazatin, QCU ink deal to train barangay leaders to help OSY

Angeles City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. has signed a memorandum of understanding with Quezon City University (QCU) for a United States-funded project to train barangay leaders to assist the out-of-school youth (OSY).

Representing QCU in the signing ceremony on Thursday, July 18, at Lazatin’s office was its President Theresita Atienza.

Joining Lazatin was City College of Angeles OIC Dr. Carolina Sarmiento, and CCA Designated Chairman of the Board Dr. Frankie Villanueva.

The Angeles City Information Office (CIO) said the MOU was for the city government and QCU’s collaboration on the project of the US Agency for International Development (USAID)-Education Development Corporation (EDC) Opportunity 2.0 Grant titled, “Expanded Executive Course for Barangay Leaders on Systems Delivery Support for Out-of-School Youth (BLeSDS) for the OSY.”

Under the MOU, the CIO said a vital component of the program is to conduct training in preparation for the pilot implementation of BLeSDS for the OSY in two cities with existing Youth Development Alliances, namely Angeles City and Pasig City.

“This training consists of a five-day workshop designed to equip participants with the skills to develop and design community programs, projects, and activities that address the issues and challenges faced by OSYs in Angeles City,” it said.

After the pilot implementation, the CIO said a Local Youth Summit will be organized where BLeSDS for the OSY participants will present their project proposals to the local stakeholders, potential benefactors, and possible partners.
