Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. is eyeing to expand the “black soldier fly” program at the barangay level.
One of the emerging technologies in bio-waste management, the black soldier flies convert organic waste into high-quality nutrients for pet foods, fish, and poultry feeds, as well as residue fertilizer for soil amendment.
Lazatin met on Wednesday, October 16, with some barangay chairmen to discuss the potential of expanding the program, the City Information Office (CIO) said.
“The city government is utilizing black soldier fly technology to produce organic fertilizer, which is given for free to farmers and residents,” it said.
Present during the meeting were Barangay Captains Cristina Pineda of Sapalibutad, Rafael Bondoc of Capaya, Augusto Flores of Anunas, Carlos Dela Cruz of Pampang, and Dominador Lising Jr. of Margot.
