Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has ordered the disinfection of all public and private elementary schools to prevent the spread of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD).
In a memorandum issued on Thursday, January 23, Lazatin created a team to conduct the disinfection starting Saturday, February 1, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“The local government assures the public of its continued commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of every Angeleño, particularly the youth,” he said.
The initiative forms part of the city’s intensified response to curb the spread of HFMD, following suspected cases reported in local schools.
Meanwhile, City Health Officer Dr. Verona Guevarra, who recommended disinfection, said the city government would use anolyte. This, she said is an advanced disinfectant solution, which is safe, effective, and eco-friendly to ensure thorough sanitation while minimizing health risks for the students.
To sustain the efforts, Guevarra urged parents to equip their children with personal alcohol for regular disinfection, especially after the sanitation drive.
