Eco Protect kicks off “MaLu” Project in AC school

ANGELES CITY – Continuing its advocacy for heightened environmental awareness among students, the Eco Protect Management Corp. (EMPC) launched its “Lunes Malinis (MaLu)” Project at the Gueco Balibago Elementary School here on Feb. 21.

MaLu Project promotes the collection of single-use plastic sachets in exchange for garbage bins and armchairs to combat plastic waste and at the same time provide much-needed resources for schools.

The Gueco Balibago school MaLu event marked the second in Pampanga, after that at the San Fernando Elementary School in the capital city last Feb. 7.

Pampanga 1st District Rep. Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II led the launch with city councilor Edu Pamintuan, Barangay Balibago chairman Joseph “PG” Ponce, school principal Marianne Pineda, and EMPC CEO Alainne Tan.

Some 1,000 students from Grades 1-3 eagerly engaged in discussions on MaLu’s so-called 3C initiatives of Collect, Clean, and Contribute.

For every 18 kilos of plastic sachets collected, EMPC will donate one trash bin or armchair to the participating school. Gueco Balibago Elementary School received one garbage bin and one armchair as part of the initiative.

Balibago chairman Ponce expressed his gratitude for the MaLu Project, emphasizing its dual benefit in protecting the environment and addressing the needs of local schools. He pledged to implement similar initiatives within Barangay Balibago, aiming to collect single-use plastics for exchange of armchairs to be donated to schools.

Congressman Lazatin praised the MaLu Project for its educational value, highlighting its role in teaching students about cleanliness, waste segregation, and the importance of recycling and upcycling plastic waste.

Principal Pineda echoed these sentiments, expressing her excitement for the project, which aligns with the waste segregation efforts in Angeles City. She emphasized the importance of helping students understand that discarded plastics can be transformed into valuable resources.

EMPC CEO Alainne Tan disclosed plans to donate 50 additional armchairs and garbage bins to several schools across Pampanga in the coming months, reinforcing the corporation’s commitment to enhancing educational environments while promoting sustainability.
