Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. of Angeles City, Pampanga has welcomed the appointment of Irish “IC” Calaguas as Assistant Secretary for Right of Way Acquisition for Rail and Road of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
The mayor described Calaguas’ appointment as a “win-win” as he expressed optimism about completing the Malolos-Clark Railway project by 2028.
“I am proud that we have two cabalens in DOTr, and even prouder that Calaguas is from Angeles City,” Lazatin said.
DOTr is headed by Secretary Vince Dizon, also from Pampanga.
Before her appointment in DOTr, Calaguas was Lazatin’s chief adviser.
“I know how dedicated IC is. Panahon pa ng tatay ko alam ko na paano magtrabaho yan. Sigurado ako malaki maitutulong nya para matapos ang ating train,” Lazatin said.
“Babad siya sa community, bukod pa sa magaling siya sa strategy kaya siguradong mas mapapabilis ang right of way acquisition ng ating train na makikinabang naman ang ating mga kababayan,” he added.
