Officials in Pampanga are planning to place the province under State of Calamity following widespread flooding that affected 18 cities and municipalities and over 200 barangays.
The recommendation was initially made by Sto. Tomas Mayor John Sambo and was immediately supported by the majority of the province’s mayors.
As Chairperson of the Pampanga Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday, July 23, to discuss the impact of the calamity.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Pampanga is set to hold a special session tomorrow, July 24, to formally approve the declaration.
According to Gov. Pineda, the move is crucial in fast-tracking the release of emergency funds and addressing the urgent needs of affected residents. #
