Mayor Punsalan of San Simon nabs for alleged extortion

Mayor Abundio “JP” Punsalan Jr. of San Simon, Pampanga was arrested for alleged extortion from a private company.

Operatives from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) conducted an entrapment operation inside a cafe in Clark Freeport Zone on Tuesday, August 5, while he was allegedly receiving P30 million cash.

The amount was reportedly an initial payment for the P80 million that the mayor allegedly was asking from RealSteel Corporation in exchange for business permits.

The mayor was arrested along with another individual. He underwent inquest proceedings on Wednesday, August 6.

Punsalan faces a complaint for violating Republic Act No. 3019, or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
