The San Fernando City government, led by Mayor Vilma Balle-Caluag, has formally launched the Giant Lantern Festival (GLF) 2025.
The launching on Monday, December 1, signaled the start of the city’s most anticipated annual celebration.
In her message, Caluag cited the festival’s vital role in promoting local tradition and boosting tourism, assuring Fernandinos and visitors alike that the city government is fully prepared to deliver a safe, festive, and world-class celebration.
City Councilor Raquel “Ate Kay” Pineda, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Tourism, and City Councilor Reggie “G4” David, both reaffirmed the council’s support for the festival and its cultural and economic impact.
The Executive Committee also announced that additional activities, security measures, and traffic advisories will be released in the coming days ahead of the main competition night.
The event will take place on December 13 at the Robinsons Starmills.
This year’s celebration marks the 117th year of the world-renowned festival, with 10 barangays set to compete through their master lantern makers, continuing the generations-long tradition of craftsmanship, innovation, and Kapampangan artistry, the city government said.
