Holidays, elections, and flood control controversy made headlines in Politiko Central Luzon in 2025.
Here are some of the highlights:
Holidays…
Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando declared February 3 a “special working holiday” to observe the birthday of late Senator Blas F. Ople.
On May 7, the Angeleños commemorated the Abad Santos Day in accordance with Republic Act No. 8815.
August 15 was also a special non-working day in Bulacan to celebrate the province’s founding anniversary.
The local government of Capas, Tarlac, meanwhile, suspended classes and work in government on September 9 and 10 to mark the town fiesta.
Taking a break…
After her hectic schedule from campaigning and later winning the May 12 elections, San Fernando City Mayor Vilma Balle-Caluag finally found time to relax. She looked sexy and beautiful in a red swimsuit while at the beach, as shown on her Facebook page.
Flood control mess…
The year 2025 was also marred by the flood control controversy.
A photo of a supposedly pumping station project in Bocaue, Bulacan bearing the name of “Tesdaman Sen. Joel Villanueva” was posted on the social media platform “Reddit” in September.
The post came as Villanueva denied the allegation by former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Assistant District Engineer Brice Hernandez that he received kickbacks in the flood control projects in Bulacan.
Meanwhile, a screenshot of supposedly Bocaue Mayor Jon Villanueva, brother of Senator Villanueva, also appeared online.
On X (formerly Twitter), Jon Villanueva thanked former DPWH District Engineer Henry Alcantara for giving him a painting of himself. The mayor described the gift as a “beautiful masterpiece.”
Hernandez and Alcantara allegedly received kickbacks from the multi-billion-peso flood control projects in Bulacan.
Festival…
In her last term as mayor of Tarlac City, Cristy Angeles, now a congresswoman, ensured that her constituents could happily celebrate the Kaisa Festival 2025 last January. Various activities were held for the festivity.
Making friends…
In March, Nueva Ecija 4th District Rep. Emerson “Emeng” D. Pascual, almost two months before the May polls, made friends with the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning) community in his district. He extended financial assistance to more than 10,000 members.
Since 2025 was an election year, the LPG Marketers Association (LPGMA) Partylist gave its full support to the “Born to Serve (BTS)” team, led by Romanoel “Dading” Santos for mayor and Anne Canlas for vice mayor, in San Simon, Pampanga.
