Yokohama PHL @ 30: Jobs, dignity, pride to Filipinos

MANILA – “What Yokohama has given us is not just jobs, but dignity, skills, and pride in our people.”

Thus, declared Clark Development Corp. president and CEO Atty. Agnes VST Devanadera as she joined government, industry, and Japanese partners in celebrating the 30th anniversary of Yokohama Tire Philippines, Inc. (YTPI) on April 16.

“Yokohama’s story is one of patience, resilience, and pride. From its beginnings in Pampanga, it has trained Filipino workers, brought them to Japan, and produced world-class tires with Filipino hands,” said Devanadera, underscoring the company’s role in shaping Pampanga’s economy.

Its impact on freeport employment and exports, she noted: “Yokohama is now the second-largest exporter and employer in [Clark] Pampanga, uplifting communities and reducing poverty.”

Looking ahead, the CDC chief emphasized continuity. “For 30 years, Yokohama has been with us. We wish for 30 more, and many more beyond that.”

The anniversary featured keynote messages, cultural performances, a symbolic donation ceremony, and recognition of employees who have served with YTPI for three decades.

YTPI president and CEO Atsushi Funayama opened the celebration with welcome remarks. Department of Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go and Minister Yokota Naobumi of the Embassy of Japan joined Devanadera in delivering keynote messages that underscored Yokohama’s role in the Philippines’ growth.

A symbolic donation ceremony was led by YTPI executive vice president Masatsugu Nishimon and Mabalacat City Mayor Atty. Gerald Guttrie Aquino.

Shinji Seimiya, president and COO of The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., delivered a special message highlighting the company’s global commitment, while YTPI executive vice president Takumi Hatakeyama closed the program with remarks affirming Yokohama’s continued partnership with the Philippines. CDC-PR
