Malacañang has declared Monday, June 15, a special non-working day in Angeles City to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption.
“The volcanic eruption of Mt. Pinatubo on 15 June 1991, the second-largest volcanic eruption in the 20th century, caused unprecedented devastation and destruction in Angeles City and other parts of Pampanga,” Proclamation No. 1293 read.
The proclamation was signed by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto by the authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Mayor Carmelo Lazatin requested the Palace to declare June 15 a special non-working day in the city to “enable Angeleños to commemorate the anniversary of Mt. Pinatubo eruption and look back on how they rose from this adversity.”
Hundreds of people died, and billions of pesos of infrastructure were damaged when Pinatubo erupted.
