CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The top two men of the Pampanga 3rd District Engineering Office have been sacked by the Department of Public Works and Highways in the wake of the death of a man who fell into an open drainage canal in Angeles City last month.
In a memorandum signed by DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, ordered relieve of their duties “effective immediately” were Pampanga 3rd DEO officer-in-charge Aser S. Mallari and OIC assistant DEO Augustin R. Dagsaan, Jr. for their “failure to comply with the required safety standards.”
The relieved engineers were further directed “to conduct an inventory, accomplish, complete, and sign all pending documents and deliverables, and formally turnover all official records, papers, and properties in your custody to the appropriate office” to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of public service.
Last Aug. 28, closed-circuit television footage circulated on social media showing a man walking on a lightly flooded sidewalk of Fil-Am Friendship Highway in Angeles City suddenly disappearing into an open drainage canal.
The Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and city police immediately launched a search and rescue operation and after an hour, the body of the victim, identified as Reiner Novero was recovered some two kilometers from where he fell. Punto News Team
