The Angeles City Water District (ACWD) and Hiraya Water Corporation have broken ground on major water infrastructure projects expected to increase water supply, improve distribution and benefit tens of thousands of households across Angeles City.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held at Punta Verde Subdivision in Barangay Pulung Cacutud, one of five strategic locations identified for the Water Source Development Project.
The project, ACWD General Manager Edgar Lopez said, is expected to generate an additional 8 million liters of water per day (8 MLD) upon completion, benefiting approximately 50,000 families in the eastern portion of the city.
Other four water source development sites are located in Barangay Cutcut along Friendship Highway, Cutcut-Bagong Bayan, Anunas and Sapangbato.
According to ACWD, the project involves drilling water wells to depths of around 650 feet or more, installation of pipes and valves, and construction of chlorination systems to ensure the safety and quality of water before it is distributed to consumers.
Water filtration facilities may also be installed when necessary. The project will likewise include pumps, motors, electrical equipment, control systems and power generators required for the operation of the water sources.
Site development and improvements will also be undertaken to ensure the facilities are safe and suitable for continuous operation.
ACWD General Manager Edgar C. Lopez and Hiraya president Jose Paulino “JP” Santamaria said residents could begin seeing improvements in water supply in the eastern side of Angeles City by October to December, with improvements also expected to be implemented simultaneously in other parts of the city.
The improvements will include the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing pipelines to enhance water flow, pressure and distribution.
The five water source locations were selected to maximize groundwater resources and improve the distribution of water, particularly in areas where demand continues to increase.
ACWD said the additional supply will help improve water availability, pressure and reliability for existing consumers while supporting efforts to provide service to families that remain unserved.
The entire Water Source Development Project is targeted for completion by December 2026.
The project is part of the water district’s efforts to develop additional water sources, upgrade existing infrastructure and strengthen the city’s water distribution system amid growing demand.
With the new water sources, pumping station and pipeline rehabilitation works, ACWD and Hiraya aim to provide more reliable water supply to more households and communities across Angeles City.
