The San Fernando City government, under the leadership of Mayor Vilma Balle-Caluag, conducted a cleanup drive on Tuesday, April 22, culminating the observance of Earth Month.
The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) joined the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) Region 3 in the activity in Barangays Calulut and Malpitic.
In her opening message, Regina Rodriguez of CENRO recognized Barangay Malpitic for using solar power system in its barangay hall and other facilities.
She cited sustainable ways to protect the planet, such as the use of refillable water bottles and reusable bags instead of single-use plastics to reduce waste, proper solid waste management and disposal, and the need for the full implementation and strong enforcement of the Plastic-Free Ordinance, particularly in the tiangges.
Some 130 sacks of residual waste were collected along portions of the Tourism Road and Malpitic-Northville Road, the City Information Office (CIO) said.
Representatives from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Pampanga, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the two villages participated in the activity.
