ANGELES CITY — The city’s newly established transfer station started operations on Feb. 12 with the end of streamlining garbage collection and improving sanitation throughout the city.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. said its operation will significantly enhance waste management efficiency and reduce garbage buildup on major roads.
“With this new system, a single garbage truck can collect waste up to four times in one barangay, preventing garbage accumulation and ensuring cleaner streets,” the mayor explained.
Initially, all waste collected from major roads will be brought to the transfer station, with plans to gradually include Barangay Capaya. Each week, one additional barangay will be permitted to use the facility until all 33 barangays in Angeles City are covered.
“This is just the beginning. As we roll out the system to more barangays, we are confident that Angeles City will set the standard for effective urban waste management,” enthused Lazatin.
City environmental management system OIC Francis Pangilinan meanwhile highlighted the operational benefits of the transfer station. “The strategic placement of the transfer station reduces the time and distance our garbage trucks need to travel, allowing them to make multiple rounds within a day.”
“This not only speeds up collection but also improves overall efficiency in waste management,” Pangilinan said, adding that the transfer station implements the “No Segregation, No Collection” policy.
Pangilinan also noted that the transfer station will reduce fuel costs and wear-and-tear on garbage trucks, maximizing city resources.
“It’s a sustainable solution that boosts productivity and ensures timely garbage disposal,” he added. “Tulad po ng hangad ni Mayor Lazatin, this is part of our ongoing commitment to maintain a healthy and hygienic environment for the Angeleños.” Angeles CIO
