August 27 declared a holiday in Pampanga town

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared August 27 as a local holiday in Minalin, Pampanga to celebrate its 411th founding anniversary.

This was contained in Proclamation 999 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and published on the Official Gazette website on August 14.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the Municipality of Minalin be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” Marcos said in authorizing the observance of the special non-working day.

Minalin was founded on August 27, 1614 and is known for its centuries-old church, the Santa Monica Parish Church which was founded in the same year as a visita or sub-parish of Macabebe, Pampanga.

The town is also famous for its “Aguman Sanduk” (Fellowship of the Ladle) New Year celebration in which the town’s straight men dress up as women and parade through town.

Minalin is also referred to as the “Egg Basket of Central Luzon” because of its large-scale production of eggs and chickens.
