Comelec strikes down Porac mayor’s win amid Ombudsman ban

Dismissed Porac Mayor Jaime Capil who won re-election in this year’s polls has been disqualified by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

COMELEC Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said the poll body has issued a ruling that granted the petition of Michael Tapang to disqualify Capil.

“Acting upon the merits of the petition, the Commission Second Division disqualified Jaime Venzon Capil as candidate for Mayor in Porac, Pampanga in the 2025 NLE (National and Local Elections) and considered the votes cast in his favor as stray,” he said.

Tapang sought the disqualification due to the decision of the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) to dismiss and perpetually ban Capil from holding public office.

In its April 4 order, the OMB stated it found Capil guilty of gross neglect of duty for continually allowing the operation of Lucky South 99, a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) that has been shut down by the government.
