DOZENS of poor families in the mountainside town of Porac have been braving the challenge of an extended community quarantine with the help of the town’s community kitchens that have been providing hot meals to residents.
Established by the municipal government through the help of barangay officials and volunteers, the community kitchens are located along community covered courts. Each community kitchen dispenses viands once a day to residents from the poorest families.
Family members with quarantine passes are the only people allowed to access the free food. Each community kitchen is also strict in the implementation of social distancing procedures.
The community kitchens are financed by the municipal government.
