Cong Pogi monitors declogging operations

ANGELES CITY – To address flooding concerns, Pampanga 1st District Rep. Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. on Aug. 20 led the inspection and declogging of the drainage along Friendship Highway stretching from Barangay Anunas to Barangay Sto. Domingo here.

The inspection and declogging were conducted in cooperation with the DPWH Pampanga 3rd District Engineering Office, led by Engr. Arnold Ocampo, and with the assistance of the city engineering office and the Angeles City Traffic Development Office, led by Helen Ayro and Francis Pangilinan, respectively.

This is the first in a series of cleanup and declogging operations that will be carried out in the First District by Lazatin’s office and the DPWH.

It can be recalled that on Aug. 14, Lazatin inspected the Cutcut Flyover with DPWH due to reports of flooding.

Amidst the heavy rains in the past weeks, videos circulated on social media showing vehicles wading through at least one-foot-deep water while passing through the flyover.

“Ing mumunang ikit tamu ing kekatamung drainage, uling matwa no reng drainage aliwa keni, mangalati la. Anya pin pakisabyan tala pin deng DPWH, malyari nong dagul ngeni uling ing uran tamu aliwa na ngeni ing volume tamu,” Lazatin said.

The 700 meter long, four-lane Cutcut Flyover was opened to vehicles in August 2024, however, the drainage in surrounding areas, including Friendship Highway, are older.

The declogging operations are expected to decongest the drainage, allowing rainwater to flow properly to prevent flooding.

Also present during the operations are Lazatin’s chief adviser IC Calaguas, chief political affairs officer Reina Manuel, and political affairs assistant Michael Lising.

On Aug. 1, Lazatin also met with DPWH Region 3 director Engr. Roseller Tolentino, and Ocampo to discuss potential infrastructure projects in the First District of Pampanga.
