
Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary Arrey Perez recently met with La Union Governor Mario Eduardo Ortega to discuss the planned construction of the Poro Point Agri-Fishery Port in the province.
In its FB page, the provincial government of La Union reported that Usec. Perez reviewed the initial project plans and laid out recommendations regarding the necessary steps for its construction. He emphasized that the port would significantly help attract investors and strengthen the agriculture and fisheries sectors in the province.

Representatives from the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) presented their proposed infrastructure plan for the project. The Agri-Fishery Port is slated to be built within a four-hectare area inside the Poro Point Freeport Zone. The project has an estimated budget of ₱2 billion, which will cover three development phases.
Ortega issued a directive to concerned agencies to collaborate and unite to ensure the swift and orderly implementation of the project. He stressed the importance of balancing environmental protection with economic empowerment.
Once completed, the Agri-Fishery Port will serve as a hub for various products, including fish and seafood, rice (Palay), corn, fruits, coffee beans, sugarcane, and fertilizers.

The meeting was attended by various stakeholders and partner agencies who expressed their full support, including the Provincial Government of La Union, the Construction Industry Arbitration Commission, Department of Development Region I, and the Poro Point Management Corporation.
The outcomes of the meeting are expected to be elevated to the office of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for the next steps of the project, according to the provincial government of La Union.
