The local government of San Fernando City, Pampanga, under the leadership of Mayor Vilma Balle-Caluag, has conducted a surprise inspection of establishments in the city to determine if they comply with the laws, ensuring the welfare of the persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The PWD Affairs Office of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and the Office of the City Building Official checked three major establishments, the City Information Office (CIO) said.
The establishments should comply with Republic Act No. 7277 (Magna Carta for Disabled Persons), Republic Act 10754 (An Act Expanding the Benefits and Privileges of PWDs), and Batas Pambansa Blg. 344 (Accessibility Law).
“The activity’s main goal was to make sure that the establishments were accessible and PWD-friendly by providing parking spaces, ramps, and adequate comfort rooms for Fernandinos with disabilities. It also served as a reminder to the private establishments to implement PWD discounts and other benefits,” the CIO said.
Inspected were the Meat Meet along Lazatin Boulevard, Lala Garden Café in Barangay San Isidro, and McDonald’s Megaworld Capital Town in Sto. Niño.
The CIO said all accommodated the visit and assured them of their support for the city’s goal of maintaining a PWD-friendly city.
