Delta inspects ₱3.9-M irrigation canal project

CANDABA, Pampanga — Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda on Thursday inspected the newly completed 560-meter concrete irrigation canal in Barangay Sto. Rosario, a ₱3.97-million provincial government project expected to improve water delivery and reduce irrigation costs for farmers cultivating about 100 hectares of agricultural land.

The irrigation canal, completed at a cost of ₱3,971,142.58, stemmed from a request made in 2024 by the Ilog Mae Bao Farmers Association headed by Chairman Ener Kabigting during Pineda’s term as governor.

Kabigting said the project has significantly improved irrigation for the association’s 30 members, who collectively cultivate 62 hectares of farmland, while also benefiting other farmers in the community.

“Dati, kapag nagpapatubig kami, yung canal lining namin, bago makarating sa area na papatubigan namin, ang laki ng nagagastos namin sa diesel. Ngayon, medyo mabilis na dahil concrete po yung pinagawang canal ni Vice Governor Delta,” Kabigting said.

He added that the concrete-lined canal allows irrigation water to reach farmlands faster, reducing fuel consumption and operational costs while making irrigation more efficient.

Pineda said the provincial government continues to prioritize agricultural infrastructure under his and Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda’s administration to support farmers and strengthen food security in Pampanga.

“Malaking bagay ang maayos na patubig para sa ating mga magsasaka. Kapag mas mabilis at mas maayos ang daloy ng tubig sa kanilang mga sakahan, nababawasan ang kanilang gastos at mas napapadali ang kanilang pagtatanim,” Pineda said.

The completed canal is expected to help farmers maximize productivity by ensuring a steadier water supply during planting seasons and easing irrigation challenges.

In separate activities, Pineda also inspected the newly completed two-storey, six-classroom school building with comfort rooms at Gulap National High School in Barangay Gulap. The ₱11,531,155.63 project commenced on March 19, 2025, and was completed on Dec. 1, 2025.

He later led the blessing of another newly completed two-storey, six-classroom school building with comfort rooms at San Agustin Elementary School in Barangay San Agustin. The facility, which cost ₱11,682,317.43, was constructed from Jan. 24, 2025, to Dec. 2, 2025, under the provincial government’s continuing school infrastructure program.

The new classroom buildings are expected to provide additional learning spaces and improve the educational environment for students and teachers in the two public schools.
