Diokno cites Lingad’s legacy on 111th birth anniversary

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines through the Museo ni Jose B. Lingad celebrated the 111th Birth Anniversary of Jose B. Lingad in Lubao town on Monday, Nov. 24.

Guest of Honor Jose Manuel “Chel” Tadeo I. Diokno urged public officials to reflect on Lingad’s legacy of honest service amid the country’s current corruption crisis.

The Akbayan Partylist representative reminded everyone that Lingad’s true legacy was his honest public service, stating that “if he (Lingad) became the voice of the oppressed, we too can become the voice of truth in our barangay, in our office, in our community.”

Vice Mayor Jay B. Montemayor of Lubao described Lingad as an integral figure behind our democracy and freedom, recalling how he defended the country along with hundreds of soldiers during World War II in the Philippines and continued to fight for democracy during the Martial Law regime.

On the other hand, NHCP Executive Director Carminda R. Arevalo recalled the extensive efforts of the family and historians in the creation of the biographical book of Jose B. Lingad titled ” In times of Crisis: Jose B. Lingad, A Hero and A Martyr”, praising the family’s effort in making Lingad’s life known and available to the public.

The event, a collaborative effort of the Municipality of Lubao, Jose B. Lingad Foundation, and Lingad’s descendants, was attended by several distinguished guests including former Mayor of Angeles City Edgardo Pamintuan, San Fernando Pampanga tourism officer Carmella Lourdes Jade Pangilinan, Secretary-General of the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines and Commissioner of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts Ivan Anthony Henares, and Bantayog ng Bayani Director Maria Cristina Rodriguez.

The successful execution of the anniversary was made possible through the continuous support of the Lubao Municipality, Jose B. Lingad Foundation, DepEd Lubao, PNP Lubao, and his descendants and family. The celebration was held at the Museo ni Jose B. Lingad in San Nicolas 1st, Lubao, Pampanga.
