The Pampanga government, under the leadership of Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda, is set to declare a state of calamity in the entire province due to the damage brought by the weather disturbances.
The Provincial Information Office (PIO) said the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), in a meeting on Wednesday, July 23, recommended to place the province under a state of calamity due the effect of Typhoons Bising, Crising, Dante, and Emong, and the southwest monsoon.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan will hold a special session on Thursday, July 24, to formally approve the declaration.
“Kapag ito ay naaprubahan, magkakaroon ng access ang mga LGU sa 30% Quick Response Fund (QRF) na maaaring gamitin para sa mga relief at recovery operations,” the PIO said.
During the meeting, which Pineda led, the PDRRM Office reported that 223 barangays in 18 municipalities and a city, with a population of almost 161,000 families or more than 527,000 individuals, were affected.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported that over P1 billion in funds are needed to fix the flood control infrastructure, while damage to agriculture reached P365 million.
Pineda assured that her office would ask for assistance from the national government to help the Kapampangans.
