Pormal nang sinimulan ang Cope Thunder Philippines (CT PH 25-1), isang joint military exercise ng Philippine Air Force (PAF) at United States Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), sa Clark Air Base, Pampanga nitong Lunes, April 7.
Pinangunahan nina PAF chief Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura at PACAF Air National Guard mobilization assistant Maj. Gen. Christopher Sheppard ang pagbubukas ng aktibidad.
Itinuturing ang CT PH 25-1 bilang mahalagang hakbang sa pagpapalakas ng joint operational readiness at defense ties ng Pilipinas at US, pati na rin sa pagpapaunlad ng kakayahan ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Ayon kay PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo, gaganapin ang mga drill hanggang April 18 sa mga pangunahing training locations sa Northern Luzon tulad ng Basa Air Base at Clark Air Base sa Pampanga, at Colonel Ernesto Ravina Air Base sa Tarlac.
Inaasahang magtatakda ang PAF ng 729 personnel at magpapadala ng mga aircraft gaya ng FA-50PH, A-29B Super Tucano, S-76A, at S-70i Black Hawk helicopters. Magpapadala rin ang PACAF ng 250 personnel at 12 F-16 fighter jets.
Tampok din sa naturang aktibidad ang mga field training exercise na nakatuon sa aircraft maneuvers at tactics.
Samantala, ngayong taon din unang beses isasagawa ang International Observer Program na lalahukan ng mga kinatawan mula sa Royal Malaysian Air Force, Royal Thai Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force, Japan Air Self-Defense Force, at Indonesian Air Force.
Dagdag pa ni Castillo, magkakaroon din ng subject matter expert exchanges na sasaklaw sa mga usaping may kinalaman sa fighter at close air support operations, helicopter operations, cybersecurity, communications, aircraft maintenance, logistics, security, at medical services. #
