Former President and Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has congratulated her fellow Kapampangan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David on his designation as a cardinal.
In a statement, Arroyo noted that David was the second cardinal from Guagua, her district, and the province of Pampanga.
“Surely this great honor will find him in great joy and may it find him in good health as well. This remarkable achievement is a testament to his unwavering dedication to the good of our people as well as his spiritual leadership and profound commitment to the Church and its mission,” she said.
David’s appointment not only honors his personal journey, Arroyo said but also serves as an inspiration to the faithful and the many members of the priesthood who admire him.
“May he be strengthened in his ministry, and may his leadership foster hope and renewal within the Church and beyond,” she added.
Pope Francis recently announced that David was one of the 21 new cardinals of the Catholic Church.
His appointment as cardinal would be formalized in December in a consistory.
