Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has administered the oath-taking of the first-ever Aeta representative in the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
City Councilor Carlos Salvador, the official Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR) of the Aeta community in Barangay Sapangbato, was sworn into office on Tuesday, October 22.
This was after Lazatin pushed for creating one plantilla position for the Sanggunian Member in a supplemental budget.
The city government said Jun Jun Tolentino also took his oath as Barangay Kagawad of Barangay Sapangbato under Republic Act 8371 or the Indigenous People’s Rights Act of 1997.
“Makasaysayan po ito para sa ating mga kapatid na Aeta dahil kabilang na po sila sa boses sa ating konseho na maglalayong mas mapangalagaan ang kanilang mga karapatan, kultura, at adhikain,” Lazatin said.
