The Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham) is set to push for construction of more interchanges at the NLEX and SCTEX.
In a text message to this writer, Atty. Ryan Tan, PamCham Director and chairman of Infrastructure Committee, said that their organization will be requesting improvements of the tollroads such as widening and building more entry and exits.
He pointed in particular the southbound lane at the Dolores portion of the SCTEX in Mabalacat City. Currently, the interchange in Dolores only has an exit for vehicles coming from the southern areas and an entry that allows motorists to proceed to Tarlac province.
The proposal came at the heels of BCDA’s approval of a northbound lane at the Luisita (Tarlac) section of the SCTEX.
Tan said that aside from the proposed southbound lane at Dolores, PamCham will also ask government authorities and private tollroad partners to also consider improvements in other parts of the two major expressways.
Describing them as “long overdue”, they include the extension of the widening of NLEX all the way to Sta. Ines in Mabalacat City, the expansion of the trumpet-style road access in Mexico exit, and the opening of another NLEX exit between Angeles and Mexico “in order to diffuse the heavy traffic along MacArthur, Pandan Road in Angeles, and the Tourism road in Del Rosario, CSFP.”
Both the NLEX and SCTEX are operated by NLEX Corporation, a subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp, a member of the MVP Group. Construction of interchanges along SCTEX, on the other hand, is an undertaking of the BCDA and would need approval of the Toll Regulatory Board.
