Púpul ning Banua 2026 event and recognition cited by veteran host and professor

Renown Kapampangan host and professor Cecile Yumul has weighed in on the success of Pupul Ning Banua 2026, particularly the recognition given by the Angeles City government on artists and participants.

The veteran broadcaster took to social media her appreciation of the event in celebration of the National Arts Month organized by the City Tourism Office.

“FIRST HOST of this annual Awards always held February. After many years of hibernation it has resumed to honor outstanding Angeleños. 28 February 2026.

Maglapuak ing Pusu king Dangalan a babie ding Angeleños,” her FB post stated.

The month-long event was capped by the Púpul ning Banua Awards which honored the excellence, creativity, and heart of the Angeleños, particularly its artists. The event was supported by patrons and leading advocates for arts that included Mrs. Herminia “Minyang” Pamintuan and Jason Pabalan.

For Yumul, a highly-respected advocate of culture, arts, and environmental causes, the revival is both personal and symbolic. A familiar and trusted voice in local radio, she served for many years as co-anchor alongside the late Rox Peña, leaving a lasting imprint on the region’s broadcasting history.

The revival of the awards is an initiative of Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, through the Angeles City Tourism Office (ACTO). The program forms part of the city’s broader tourism and cultural development efforts  highlighting that what truly defines Angeles is not only its destinations, but also its people.

The Púpul ning Banua Awards recognizes individuals and groups whose outstanding achievements bring pride and honor to the city. This year’s revival holds even deeper significance as it aligns with the celebration of National Arts Month, reinforcing Angeles City’s commitment to nurturing its creative community.

This prestigious award covers nine disciplines of the arts whether in Film, Visual Arts, Architecture, Dance, Fashion & Beauty, Theatre, Music, Culinary Arts, or Literature recognizing the diverse talents that continue to enrich the city’s cultural landscape.

Púpul ning Banua is a celebration of the artists and cultural champions who keep Angeles City’s creative spirit alive.

It is a tribute to individuals and organizations whose passion and dedication shape and strengthen the local arts and culture scene  from storytellers and designers to performers, chefs, architects, musicians, and heritage advocates who carry the Kapampangan identity with pride.
