CANDABA, Pampanga – Rotten balut, penoy, and salted eggs are dumped in a farm in Barangay Paligui here due to lack of buyers amid the high price of petroleum products.
Eggs that have remained edible are just given to neighbors for free.
RedFarm employee Timothy Dayandante said their business has been adversely affected since the price of crude oil and gasoline increased. Regular customers from Metro Manila are no longer picking their products and they cannot do deliveries with the skyrocketing price of diesel.
He said that prior to the turmoil in the Middle East, the price of balut ranges from P20 to P30 per piece but now it is sold for P20 for three.
He estimated that their sales have dropped by 50% while the price of poultry feeds has increased by 30%.
Dayandante appealed to the government to find a way to lower the price of crude oil because if the present crisis continues, the closure of their business will be a certainty.
