The local government of San Fernando City, Pampanga, under the leadership of Vilma Balle-Caluag, has conducted a series of activities to raise awareness and combat the spread of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
The City Health Office (CHO) and various partner agencies organized an observance of World AIDS Day on Monday, December 2. World AIDS Day is being observed every December 1.
This brought together members of the community to forge a “collective action” to raise AIDS awareness, the City Information Office (CIO) said.
City Health Officer Dr. Rowena Salas, representing Caluag, said San Fernando is actively working to help the world “end AIDS” by placing a high priority on providing Fernandinos with “equal access to healthcare” and assisting in the “eradication of stigma” associated with HIV and AIDS.
During the event, free HIV screening, dance exercise, and unity walk, calling on all to “know their status” and to “get tested” were held.
Panel discussions and educational talks about misconceptions, developments in HIV treatment, and motivational testimonies from people living with the virus were also conducted.
