Sec Go announces LRT-2 PISO Fare for 2 weeks with launch of cashless payments system

Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go has announced that holders of the MySSS Card powered by RCBC DiskarTech can avail themselves of the two-week PISO Fare promo during the launch of the LRT-2 cashless payments system, which he said will help commuters skip long ticket lines and access trains with a single tap, making every journey faster and more convenient.

“Itong programa na ito ay tugma sa layunin ng ating gobyerno na makatulong sa ating mga kababayan. Utos po ito ng Pangulo na maghanap kami ng paraan na mapapadali, mapamura, at mapa-ginhawa ang buhay ng ating mga mamamayan,” he said at launch of the LRT-2 Digital Fare Payments Proof of Concept (POC) at the Legarda LRT-2 Station.

LRT-2 commuters, including international visitors, can now pay for their fares by simply tapping their Visa or Mastercard bank cards, NFC-enabled mobile devices, or scanning a GCash QR code at the fare gates.

The project is a collaborative initiative of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), and Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC).

Sec. Frederick Go highlighted that the government has been pursuing reforms that make digital financial services more affordable and convenient for Filipinos, including the removal of transfer fees for InstaPay and PESONet transactions.

“Kaya kami sa LANDBANK, noong May palang, nagbigay kami ng isang libreng transaction kada araw at higit pa dito, binabaan rin namin ang digital transaction fees—mula PHP 15 naging PHP 8. Ang pinaka-magandang resulta po nito ay halos lahat na po ng malalaking bangko ay sumunod na at libre na ang digital transactions ng ating bayan,” he said.

Sec. Frederick Go underscored the importance of public-private partnerships (PPPs) such as this to deliver better public services more effectively, improving daily commutes that millions of Filipinos rely on.

He expressed optimism that the pilot of this initiative will pave the way for the wider adoption of interoperable digital fare payments across the country’s public transportation network.

Present at the launch were Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry R. Aguda, DOTr Undersecretary Timothy John R. Batan, LRTA Administrator Hernando T. Cabrera, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Deputy Governor Mamerto E. Tangonan, Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz, SSS PCEO Robert Joseph de Claro, and PPP Center Executive Director Rizza Blanco-Latorre.

They were joined by private sector representatives, including RCBC President and CEO Reginaldo Anthony B. Cariaso, Vice President and General Manager for GCash for Business Paul Albano, GCash B2B Sales Head Cleo Celeste Santos, and GCash Vice President and Head of Innovations Leonardo Ferdinand Byron Perez.
