Tarlac Governor Christian Yap has welcomed Pax Silica, citing its job generation potentials and its “multiplier effects.”
While stressing Pax Silica must ensure sustainability and protection of the environment, Yap said that he sees huge job opportunities for his constituency that can also stir local economy.
“This is a welcome project para sa aming probinsya dahil sa trabaho. Yung multiplier effect nya napakalaki. Bukod sa libo-libong trabaho yung maitutulong nya sa ating lokal na industriya ay napakalaki,” Yap said in an interview.
The project will rise in New Clark City which straddles Bamban and Capas, two towns within the territorial jurisdiction of Tarlac province.
The BCDA, which owns and manages the 10,000-hectare NCC, estimates that Pax Silica would offer 190,000 and 800,000 direct and indirect jobs, respectively. This, at the height of its peak operations in the next 10 years.
Initial investment, on the one hand, is projected to be $10 billion, increasing this to 40 to 70 billion at full buildout.
He said that with Pax Silica being built in Tarlac, local residents no longer need to travel to Clark Freeport, about 30 kilometers away, for jobs.
“Dyan sa Clark (Freeport), ang daming semiconductor companies, Texas Instruments, Samsung, at iba pa na kung saan kailangan pa pumunta ang aming mga kababayan sa lugar na iyon. ”
“Eh ngayon magkakaroon ng isang oportunidad na magtayo ang mga ganun klaseng kumpanya sa ating probinsya para malapit yung trabaho eh bakit hindi?,” he said.
Yap said that based on initial dialogues with BCDA, Pax Silica will be a manufacturing hub for semiconductors. He dispelled fears that it would host data centers which are known to be high consumers of power and water.
The dialogues, he said, would continue at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan where business, relogious and other sectors can raise their concerns.
