Youth art set to turn into wearable chic in Porac

PORAC, Pampanga — Creativity is set to take on new form as young artists prepare to see their works transformed into functional, wearable art in this municipality. Originally created during the Nature’s Color Carnival held last March 14, the artworks captured the uninhibited imagination of children inspired by nature. Now, these painted canvases are poised to be reimagined into tote bags, pouches, and aprons, giving each piece a renewed purpose beyond display.

Leading the transformation is renowned Kapampangan couturier Philip Torres of House of Pidayit, who will guide local dressmaking trainees under the Municipal Community Training and Skills Development Office, headed by Myla Isip. The collaboration aims not only to refine craftsmanship but also to empower participants with practical skills.

The project is mounted by the Porac LGU through its tourism office in partnership with Vision Doers Collective Art, bringing together artists and artisans in a shared effort to promote sustainability and community-driven creativity.

Porac tourism officer Gem Marimla emphasized that the initiative reflects a deeper vision for tourism and cultural development, where local stories are translated into tangible creations.

With the collection to be handcrafted by local trainees of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and soon to be unveiled, Porac continues to shape a narrative where art is not only seen, but soon to be worn.
